June marked a significant milestone in the shared history of Delta Air Lines and Jackson. As the destination for Delta’s first commercial flight in 1929, the partnership between Delta and Jackson has thrived for 95 years, witnessing remarkable advancements in aviation.

That historic first flight landing at Davis Field (now Hawkins Field) was on a route from Dallas, TX, with stops in Shreveport and Monroe, LA, with the Travel Air S-6000 airplane carrying five passengers and one pilot. Since that time, Delta has grown to be one of the world’s largest and most in-demand air carriers.

In the 1960s, Delta’s move to what is now Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) further deepened the relationship, highlighted by establishing a reservations office within the airport – a testament to Delta’s commitment to Jackson. The Jackson Municipal Airport Authority (JMAA) takes immense pride in hosting Delta Air Lines flights many times each day, allowing JAN to connect Mississippians to six continents around the world.

The entire Delta team provides consistent, outstanding customer service to the travelers of Jackson and central Mississippi. With a 30 to 33 percent market share, Delta generally carries the most passengers at JAN, and JMAA looks forward to celebrating Delta’s centennial anniversary in five years, anticipating even more exciting changes.
