The renovation focused on modernizing the aging structure to better serve the airport’s growing needs and support local aviation activities. Key upgrades included replacing three rolling doors with a one-piece hydraulic door, completely new skin with improved insulation and modern electrical systems to accommodate various aircraft sizes and functions. The updated facility is expected to improve operational efficiency for its tenants.
Airport Manager Wes Kirkpatrick expressed gratitude for the state’s investment in the project. “This hangar has been a cornerstone of Monroe County Airport’s operations for nearly five decades,” he remarks. “Thanks to MDOT’s support, it will continue to play a vital role in our community’s growth and connectivity.”
The renovation aligns with Monroe County’s broader strategy to boost economic development by enhancing transportation infrastructure. Local officials anticipate the upgraded facility will attract new aviation-related businesses and support the expansion of existing ones.
