Poplarville-Pearl River County Airport Completes More Than $3 Million in Lighting and Resurfacing Projects

By Darrell Fuller, Board Member
Poplarville-Pearl River County Airport

In the last three years, the Poplarville-Pearl River County Airport Board has received two grants from the FAA for projects that total $3,186,700. The state, county and airport board have contributed 10 percent of that amount. These two projects are essentially complete.

The first project was the removal and replacement of all runway, taxiway and ramp lights. The VASI has been replaced by a new PAPI system.

The second project was the complete removal and resurfacing of the runway, taxiways and ramp. This included extending the south overrun by 100 feet, which required about 40,000 cubic yards of fill dirt.

We now have two certified A&E mechanics at the airport. The terminal building is open 24/7 and fuel is also available 24/7 by credit card. Jet-A is available on request.

Our next project is the construction of seven more hangars.

Runway rehabilitation began in February.

Ramp rehabilitation was well underway in January.
