Members Invited to MAA Capitol Day
By Clay Williams, Executive Director
Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport
At the recent Mississippi Airports Association Annual Conference, the MAA Board of Directors assembled a legislative committee to assist in advancing issues of benefit to all airports across our state. The first item of consensus was to advocate for an increase in funding to the Mississippi Department of Transportation Multi-Modal Improvement Fund. The program has helped to enhance infrastructure at airports of all sizes and types throughout Mississippi. Each year there are more airport projects worthy of being funded than there are funds to go around. While the funds currently made available by MDOT are tremendously appreciated, additional airport needs continue to exist, and the cost of construction continues to rise. We firmly believe now is an opportune time to seek additional funding for the program, which will not only benefit airports across the state, but also ports, railroads and public transit. The program is critical to all modes of transportation in every region of Mississippi.
It is our hope you will let your state Senators and House members know of the importance of the MDOT Multi-Modal program to our industry.
On Tuesday, February 2, 2023, we plan to hold MAA Capitol Day at the State Capitol in Jackson. We want to begin to do this on an annual basis to bring greater awareness to the importance of aviation in Mississippi and provide increased visibility to the work of the Mississippi Airports Association.
Please mark your calendars and make plans to join fellow members from the Association in Jackson at 8 a.m. on the first floor of the state Capitol building.
Hope to see you in February!
