On Tuesday April 5, 2022, FedEx pilots, recruiters and other representatives from Memphis visited the Delta State University campus. They spent the day connecting and hosting workshops with commercial aviation students. The FedEx representatives inspired students through sharing experiences of life as a pilot or hub employee and offered a Q&A session to students.
After a day of networking, FedEx announced $5,000 scholarships to 20 DSU students. The company’s Purple Runway program is a platform to future employment as a cargo pilot at FedEx for aspiring student pilots. In its first two years at Delta State, the Purple Runway program awarded ten scholarships for $10,000 dollars. Eligibility requires that candidates be Delta State students with a minimum 2.75 GPA and a private pilot’s license. Students have an increased chance at winning if they are involved in campus organizations like Women in Aviation International (WAI), professional aviation fraternity Alpha Eta Rho or the DSU Precision Flight Team.
