Fellow Mississippi Aviation Professionals,

This President’s letter opens The MAA Flyer third quarter newsletter.  For those who haven’t heard, Mr. Dirk Vanderleest, former Director of JAN, has moved from the state; we all wish him well.  The team at GTR has opened their doors again to those in need of hiding from hurricanes.  Both JAN and GPT are working on landside operations, and Louisville is hosting an airshow.  We hope the show has great weather, safe air ops and exposes all to aviation fun!

Your Mississippi Airports Association and its member airport managers/directors have been busy educating our U.S. delegation on Airport Improvement Program funding issues and Air Traffic Control privatization.  The association printed promotional materials to present to our Senators, Congressmen, government officials and staff.  We have kept an eye on state legislative actions as well.  Mr. Jeff Wagner, the Association’s legal counsel, has kept us up to speed on ad valorem tax exemption granted to leases of airport property under Miss. Code Ann. §61-3-21.

Our Executive Director, Ms. Kathy Kenne, has sent out emails during the past quarter on subjects ranging from college students looking for employment to surplus equipment offers to airport/aircraft insurance questions.  Your Association and its membership stand ready to support one another whatever the question or need may be.  Please forward this newsletter to airports within a 50nm radius that you believe may not receive it.  That email may not necessarily be to an airport manager/director, but could be to a mayor, city manager, public works director or other official.  We need to let them know we are here for them and that membership has its privileges.

Wishing you all blue skies and tailwinds,

Bill Cotter
President
Mississippi Airports Association
